Overview – Entire Plan

The original file of the entire updated Cliffsend Traffic Calming is large (2.3 Mb) and is designed to be printed on A0 (flip-chart size) paper, so will be almost unreadable on A4.
A small image of it is shown below.
A download of the original can be expanded on screen as desired to view details.

The small files are extracts from the large file.
These should print much better on A4 paper.

Kent Highways Work Details

Highway Improvements in Your Area

Sandwich Road,

Cliffsend Village

What are we planning to do?

Following on from the works on Canterbury Road West, we will be completing the scheme on Sandwich Road. This will include the construction of a signalised gateway feature west of the petrol filling station, a raised Zebra crossing near Foads Lane, a raised table junction at Cliffs End Grove, mini-roundabouts at Meverall Avenue and Cliffsend Road junctions. The existing build-out near chalk Hill will be removed and a 30mph speed limit will be signed between Cliffsend Road and the petrol station.

Where will the works take place?

The works will take place on Sandwich Road.

Why do we want to do this work?

To encourage more through traffic to use the Cliffsend by-pass in addition to improving the environmental and social benefits to Cliffsend as a village.

How will we carry out the work and how will it affect you?

To carry out works safely, Sandwich Road will need to be closed to through traffic. To maximize access and minimize inconvenience, this will be done in short sections during working hours. However, it will be necessary to implement a full road closure for 24 hours a day for two weeks from the 20th October for the section of Sandwich Road between the petrol filling station and the entrance to the Pegwell Bay Country Park.

Bus services will continue to operate throughout the construction period.

However, during the two week full closure, buses will be diverted using Foads Lane. To enable this, cars will be not allowed to park on Foads Lane between Sandwich Road and Cottington Road to keep the route clear.

We will endeavour to ensure the works are undertaken as quickly as possible to minimize the inconvenience.

When will the work start and how long will it take?

The works will start on 29th September and will take approximately 12 weeks to complete.

WARNING – Beware Bogus Callers

Kent Highway Services do not allow works to be carried out on private properties. If anyone says they are working for Kent Highway Services or our specialist contractors and offer to carry out any work for cash they should be treated with caution and you are advised to contact Kent County Council Trading Standards on 0845 3450210, 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Please respect our workers place and safety by driving carefully and slowly through the roadworks. Feedback from our workers shows that too many drivers go too fast through roadworks. Everyone is entitled to a safe workplace.  Our men and women work next to moving traffic and risk injury every day.

Please keep this in a safe place so you can refer to it if you need to contact us whilst the works are being done – call us on 03000 41 81 81
