A new set of Playground Equipment was installed on the Recreation Ground in late 2015.
This play area was created by Thanet District Council and funded by money from the Vattenfall Wind Power Limited Community Benefit Fund following the development of the Thanet Array Offshore Wind Farm.
Cliffsend users (& parents) helped to choose which pieces of equipment were included.
The £50,000 cost came from Vattenfall – who installed the Thanet Array Offshore Windfarm and the cable which connects the Wind Farm to the UK electricity supply at the Richborough Power Station site.
The cable comes ashore in Pegwell Bay, Cliffsend, by the filling station, and is routed under the Sandwich Road to Richborough.
Cliffsend was particularly badly affected during the cable laying work, and for several years thereafter, until the village car park adjacent to the filling station was finally made useable and re-surfaced in 2013 when the Flood Defences were installed.
The official opening ceremony was held on 7th Apr 2016, in the Recreation Ground, followed by a celebration in the Village Hall.
There were attendees from Thanet Council, Vattenfall, Cliffsend Parish Councillor, and Cliffsend parishioners – including "children" (young & not so young) using the equipment!
Vattenfall are also funding a new bench to be placed inside the playground; Thanet District Council will install it.
